Best Beers of September

New Glory Gummy Worms – Big fruity hop flavor with a really lovely mouth feel. I could drink this fantastic beer every day. This beer lives up to the eye catching can and fun name.

Firestone Walker Bretta Weisse – This California brewery is making some world class sour beer, and Bretta Weisse is a good example. It is tart, crisp, and refreshing. Citrus flavor with a hint of funk and oak.

Matchless Voss IPA – Very smooth with big citrus flavor and mellow bitterness. They used a farmhouse yeast which works perfectly with the citrus tang of the hops. I love the idea of combining fruity hops with yeast flavors not normally found in an IPA.

Mazama Paradise – I had this among a few other beers so I didn’t get a photo or tasting notes, but it was the standout of the night. I’d never had anything from Mazama before and the description on the bottle worried me:

A tart ale brewed with Pineapple, Pink Guava, Passionfruit, and a touch of coconut. Flavors meld together into a delicious concoction that will take you away to your own little paradise.

That’s a lot of flavors to be mixing together. I was concerned it would come out weird and muddied, but my worries were totally unfounded. Each flavor was distinct but still harmonious. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for some more Mazama.

Saint Arnold Raspberry AF – This is a well executed Berliner Weiss with really fresh, natural raspberry flavor. Clean, tart, and refreshing.

Modern Times Rowing Needles – Sorry, no photo but trust me, the color of Rowing Needles is gorgeous. It makes really good use of blackberries. Modern Times seems to practice restraint with their sours, none are too sour or over the top with the adjunct flavor. This follows that trend.

21st Amendment Tasty IPA – I really enjoyed this collaboration with Tasty McDole from The Brewing Network. Read my BeerSelfie.com review.
