Beer Label of the Month: Gigantic’s Most Premium Russian Imperial Stout

Gigantic Brewing is one of many small breweries in Portland Oregon, but they help set themselves apart with their fantastic labels. I’ve never had any of their beers so I’ll have to take their word on their claim of making “the best damn IPA in Portland.” The label for their Gigantic IPA isn’t bad but I really like their seasonal beer labels. My favorite is their Most Premium Russain Imperial Stout.

I can’t explain what Grasshopper Kaiser Wilhelm is all about, and apparently neither can they:

Frank Kozik is the artist that created the label and I haven’t heard from him on the significance of a grasshopper dressed as a German emperor on a Russian imperial stout. While I know Wilhelm had interactions with Russia during his reign, my historical knowledge is not sufficient to begin to speculate on a possible connection to grasshoppers. Whatever it all means it makes for an eye catching beer label.

Kozik got his start in the art world creating concert posters and artwork for musicians such as Pearl Jam, The White Stripes, The Beastie Boys, Green Day, Neil Young and Nirvana. He has since directed music videos, opened and closed a recording studio, and now designs toys.

I’ll leave you with the Kaiser Wilhelm quote from the label:

Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world.
